Pahiatua – Tui Brewery & Pahiatua Museuem

Sunday will be our Club’s first interesting post lock-down day out.

Everyone is invited to meet at 10:00 am in Palmerston North Square Carpark for a quick cuppa and briefing. Departure will be at 10:30 am.

Some people may prefer to meet us at the Pahiatua Railway Station at 11:15 am to inspect progress at the Railcar Restoration Centre. The entry fee is now $10 pp.

Warm clothing, good brakes and B.Y.O lunch will follow at Carnival Park, south of Pahiatua town, which is a very nice sheltered area to sit in the sun, listen to the birds and eat lunch – or inside if the weather dictates! A gold coin donation here please for use of their facilities.

After lunch we drive north to Mangatainoka to The Tin Hut, a very interesting local Museum – another donation entry fee here. The Hot Rods and V8’s Show and Shine have pre-booked at the Tui Brewery that day. So this will not be on our itinerary. We will continue on to Woodville for a Café stop/ice cream and to drive via the steeper Saddle Road or Balance Road back to the Manawatu to finish the day out.

Organisers – Brian and Deirdre McPherson – phone 06 3546310 (Leaders of the pack)

The Kuku Classic Grass Gymkhana

Meet 11am, at the beginning of Kuku East Rd (park on side of the road, next to the storage shed, facing the ranges), off SH1, between Ohau and Manakau.

From there, we’ll convoy to 297 Kuku East Rd (About 3kms up the road), park up, have a driver briefing and do a drive through of the gymkhana course.

BYO picnic lunch, raffle money and comfy portable chairs. Tea and Coffee will be available. After lunch on the deck/garden, let the competition begin! Compete for the McCarthy Cup and ultimate bragging rights.

No car jumps required but there will be tight turns, backing skills, driver multi-tasking required, passengers could be in the hot seat of responsibility too. Those that know where their Morris wheels hit the dirt will have an easy day of it. Those that don’t will just have to go with the flow and do their best! Fun and hilarity promised. Points for skills and time. Great spectator sport. Judges will be appointed on the day.

Vuvuzela’s, claxons or old car horns permitted to cheer on the participants.
